Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Unlike his frequently bombastic contributions to the Forever Knight soundtracks, Fred Mollin's work on the late-1980s Friday the 13th series generated suspense and drama through more understated themes, which was only natural given that show's moody style. All of the music here (with the exception of some saxophone and electric guitar) was created on the Kurzweil K250, allowing the composer to sample a wide range of orchestral instruments. Instead of trying to mask the synthetic qualities of the music, he cleverly picks specific timbres for the instrumentation--from jarring brass to flittering harp to forlorn violin--which are undeniably linked to the series itself. While there are plenty of dissonant, heart-pounding moments on this CD, there are also many moods, from hope ("Wedding in Black") to playfulness (the carnival motif within "The Playhouse") and even a lament ("Death of Micki"). While the CD at first seems frightfully low-key, successive plays reveal its virtues. --Bryan Reesman

First of all, I HATE synth scores with a passion.
Second,I'm addicted to horror movie scores.
I remember the TV series and I definitely remember the Opening Title theme, which was about the only reason I handed over even $2 to buy this CD at a thrift store.
From previous scores Fred Mollin has demonstrated that with even a modest budget he can create a rousing good score -not Shakespeare or Wagner by any means, but still a score of interest, some degree of subtlety ... Read More

Many have probably confused the title of this series with that of the films. That also occured during the show's three-year run. It is unfortunate because, like the program, Fred Mollin's music is far superior to any of the "big screen" endeavors. The respective suites from the various episodes are representative of some of the best of his work applied to the most memorable installments of the horror series. Mollin is highly prolific and diverse, composing really unique works, never repeating himself. ... Read More

This CD shows some of the best work of Fred Mollin. The fans of the t.v series can especially relate to the music which comes from the show. All songs come directly from the series and has been remastered from the original music, providing higher quality music.

This show was one of my favorites from about 10 years ago. In a nutshell, for those of you who don't know about the show, it was about 2 cousins and a friend who re-claimed antiques that were cursed and sold by the cousins' mad uncle Lewis Vendredi. Sounds cheesy, but it was great! And the music was really cool! Fred Mollin does music for a lot of other Canadian shows (i.e. "Forever Knight,"), and he's really talented. I listen to this CD when I write sometimes because it helps me tune into a ... Read More
