Editorial Review:
Product Description: A clever tile laying game. The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious. Special rules for the 12 river tiles: Remove the special starting tile from the game. Instead, begin the game by laying the spring that starts the river. Set aside the lake tile and shuffle the remaining 10 river tiles face down and draw from these before drawing from the tiles from the normal game. These tiles are played and followers may be played as in the normal game with one exception: a river tile may not be placed so that the river makes a U turn. Followers may not be placed on rivers. Once these 10 river tiles have been played, the next player plays the lake and then play continues with the normal tiles. Klaus-Juergen Wrede created Carcassonne. It is for 2 to 5 players and takes about 60 minutes to play

Amazon has got to love me. I'm always searching for new things to read, watch, or play. And so while searching for a fun and interesting new board game, I came across both Carcassonne and The Settlers of Cataan. After some deliberation and research (see Wikipedia), I chose Carcassonne because it looked more visually appealing and because the rules seemed more interesting. Boy, did I make a good choice!
This game is so easy to get the hang of. Basically, you score points by placing your ... Read More

I bought this game for my bfnd on his bday cuz he had it in his wish list for the longest time!
we already played and it was lots of fun. . .it was so easy to understand that, although we said that our first game was a trial so we can get used to it, we got it right away and our trial became the real thing.
I recommend it for all ages (my mom is her late 50's and she enjoyed herself)
and actually the expansions are in my Christmas gift list :)

We took this game to a family reunion and everyone loved it, even the small ones about 5 and up can play with a little help. My sister and niece both asked for a set for Christmas.

I bought this game for my 6 year old with some concern about whether he would be able to play it. Well, he absolutley loves it. He wants to play it with all his friends and asks me to play almost every evening. We started out playing without scoring the farmers, but I think I'm going to start adding that concept into our games this weekend.

This is a great game. If you want to get the original game with 5 of the expansions consider getting the big box version, also sold by Amazon. Doing so is a much better deal. I write this only because I never saw the big box version and ended up having to purchase both.
