After viewing some of the songs of this product on YouTube, I was under the happy impression that this performance would be a true representative of the exalted story written by Victor Hugo.
It appears I should have been the Pope of Fools.
Other than throwing in a few key elements of the story, it is very different from the novel. Phoebus is portrayed as a gallant man who is torn in love between Esmerelda and Fleur de Lis (in the book, he's in love with neither), Esmerelda ... Read More

This is a * remastering of a ****1/2 star movie. The picture quality is very poor--grainy, unclear, and the color is bad. I found the movie almost unwatchable.
What fans need is a decent remastering of this classic movie, NOW.

I recall seeing this movie as a kid and loving it. However, it looks very old-fashioned, is very stiff, very staged looking. It's just kind of hokey.
A new "Hunchback" movie is needed. I'm waiting for that one, maybe with Brad Pitt as the hunchback.
Best,
Film Guy

But for my money, this is the version to buy and cherish. Filmed in France for Frenchmen, and secondarily for the international market, HUNCHBACK was criticized at home for failure to cast French actors in either of the leading roles. It's not as if France in 1956-7 didn't have dozens of great stars, ... Read More
