Product Description: Has some surface marks but plays well. Buy with confidence--see my feedback. Thanks and enjoy this great CD!
Amazon.com's Best of 2001: She may be beautiful, but Alicia Keys is a musician first and foremost. She plants herself firmly behind the piano keys on her debut, unlike many of the booty-waggin' junior divas who are crowding the R&B videoscape these days. Though many of the tracks on Songs in A Minor are embellished with adolescent angst, this 20-year-old's substantial, gorgeously soul-drenched alto putties the cracks between notes with astonishing ease. "Fallin'," the album's first single, showcases Keys at her best. She wails plaintively and passionately over rolling blues chords, in the tradition of the greats that this young talent clearly wants to align herself with--Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and Aretha Franklin. She swoops and soars over the spicy, flamenco-fueled melody that opens "Mr. Mann," one of the many winning tracks gathered here. And she digs deep into a remake of the beloved Prince B-side, "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" packing more heat into her melismatic wails than most singers twice her age. --Sylvia W. Chan

Only few artist are so much gifted that they can make their first album very worthy... ...and Alicia is one of them.

This was Alicia Keys debut CD. Alicia writes most of her own tracks, and plays a lot of the music for the recordings as well. This is what I call a true artist. The CD starts with a piano classic, but then Alicia drops her own beats into it, showing her own styling which is a great opening for the CD. I loved it from start to finish, and I hope you do to.

Yep, not buying it for $13.99. MP3 download albums should be $9.99 at most. I have no plans to ever pay more than $9.99 for this album.

This review is for the DVD-A release only. "Songs in A Minor" is a run-of-the-mill R&B album as far as content goes, but it does contain "Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth". There is also an amazing old-school 70s-sounding jam on one of the tracks. What is stunning is the absolute clarity, full vocal range, and the surround arrangement. You feel as though the chorus is actually behind you. There is no stereo downmix, so you pretty much need a surround setup to hear it correctly.

I didn't know if I was going to like the cd or not but I love it.
