Amazon.com:
Bearing absolutely no resemblance to the 1980s TV series that helped to propel Michael Mann into big-time filmmaking, Miami Vice is the kind of serious, and seriously stylish, crime drama that Mann does better than anyone else. As written by Mann himself, this undercover sting thriller doesn't reach the peak intensity of Mann's 1995 classic Heat, and it lacks the tight, nail-biting suspense of Collateral, but that doesn't mean it doesn't occasionally pack a wallop. As Miami detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs (respectively), Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx don't have to do much but mumble their plot-thickening dialogue and look ultra-cool in the casual cop attire, and their partnership is rather lifeless on screen (perhaps owing to the fact that this was a troubled production, with an actual shooting that occurred during filming, and Foxx's refusal to risk his life on dangerous locations in South America). But once Mann shifts into high gear with a plot to foil a powerful drug kingpin (Luis Tosar) and his ruthless middle-man (John Ortiz), Vice pays off with the kind of smart, realistic action that Mann's fans have come to expect. With Chinese superstar Gong Li as Crockett's love interest on the wrong side of the law, Miami Vice covers territory that's a little too familiar, and one suspects Mann's screenplay might've been punched up with a polish or two. Still, this is an above-average crime thriller that demands and rewards close attention, with a climactic shoot-out that's pure Mann, worthy of the brooding drama that precedes it. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "I Dont Want you To Know who I Am"
Think of this movie as a return to greatness. A Toast of excellence if you will. I saw this as the greatest Miami Vice episode ever.
The 2 Stars, Sonny Crockett (Colin Ferrel) and Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) are 2 Miami Dade officers who go Undercover to bust a huge drug operation.
The cast is spectacular, and the script is Top-Notch.
Now, Im the kind of person who is used to my action movies having a bunch of action through-out. And this does, dont get me wrong, but this has a different ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Where's the Hi Def?
I enjoyed this movie. I didn't think that I would since I watched the TV series regularly. I didn't think that it would compare and I don't think that the director tried to compare it and that is why it worked. I purchased the blu-ray edition of this movie. What I do not understand is why they would purposefull have so much graininess in this film. It goes beyond graininess in some shots to down right horrid. This is definitely not the movie that you want to play to show off your hi-def television and blu ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - People have no taste.
This is as good as it gets.
But it isn't flashy in all the right (read; wrong) ways, so it didn't make it. This movie had me smiling from beginning to end. My only complaint is that Colin's hair is so red-necky that it just didn't fit the character in my eyes.
I was a huge fan of the TV show and take absolutely no offense to the movie being so different.
This isn't one of the goofy action movies people like to call gritty now-a-days, this is crime at it's best, period.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - bad movie
First of all, I'd like to know: Why is Colin Farrell so popular? He's an awful actor, and I hate every movie I've ever seen him in. Jamie Foxx is decent, but this movie is way too long. Farrell and Foxx have no chemistry, but you can't really blame Foxx: it's not easy to have chemistry with a block of wood. With someone other than Farrell and a shorter running time, this movie could have been good.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I'm a Mann Fann - and Likely Biased :)
I can still recall my youthful evenings watching television at home and my parents settling in to watch what appeared to be a too-cool-for-an-eight-year-old-kid-to-watch-show, Miami Vice. The television series ran for five seasons on NBC, from 1984-1989. But the action and drama of the show still sucked me in. Alongside favorites like Knight Rider, Riptide and The A-Team, Miami Vice seemed uber-cool, even if I spent a lot of the time confused about the more complex plots.

With nostalgia driving ... Read More
