It's a couple thousand rough miles from Hazzard County to Broadway, and not very many have even attempted the trip. Twenty years after chasing the dusty TV back roads with Boss Hog in endless pursuit, Tom Wopat made a strong impression on Broadway opposite Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun. But what makes the unlikely journey of Wopat, the former Luke Duke himself, even more gratifying is this collection of pop standards. Though his voice may not have the operatic qualities one expects from a Broadway star, Wopat displays a jazz singer's mastery of its every husky quirk and breathy nuance. More importantly, he understands that songs have to be sold as well as sung, and he rises to the occasion on every cut. The choice of material is just as canny, a smoky late-evening turn through pop and Broadway standards that's reminiscent of Sinatra and Bennett's saloon songs in mood, though Wopat is clearly his own man here. Kudos are also due producer Russ Titleman and his arrangers, whose spare, understated backdrops frame Wopat's deceptively effortless readings to perfection. Can't recall why I picked this up in the first place. Maybe it was the song selection? To me, it was a combination of clever, complex and passionate titles. I was familiar with who Tom was, but had never seen his TV show or had the pleasure of seeing him on Broadway.
I have since picked up at least 3 copies of this CD and will probably pick up more. I'll find myself going on and on about how entertaining it was and then just give my copy away only to have to get another copy. And ... Read More

A very ,very nicely done performance by Mr. Wopat.
After one listen- it has not left the player.
His renditions of
Anyone Can Whistle / Lets Fall in Love / Baby It's Cold Outside are the best that I have heard.
This is a well-assembled, polished recording. The different song selections featuring many different musicians gives the listener a unique experience as if they are hearing these songs for the first time.

It is so Romantic, playful and wistful. His voice conveys that degree of sensitivity so irresistible in a strong man.I knew he could carry a tune from "Dukes", but who knew he could carry it so far? Certainly not I.
I don't understand how this CD could possibly be considered country? It truly is an amazing CD; so very expressive and heartfelt. I LOVED it!

I was always hesitant about buying this cd when I'd stumble on it here on Amazon. That all changed when I saw him perform as Billy Flynn in the touring cast of Chicago. Tom Wopat has an amazing singing voice! Granted, he does not have a typical Broadway singing voice, what he does have is a lot of passion and strength. I'm recommending this cd to everyone I know.
