Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Almost 40 years after her death, Judy Garland remains one of the major cultural icons of the 20th century. In this continuing series of DVD releases, you get the opportunity to revisit her rarely seen TV show, which featured Garland at the peak of her comeback powers--but also at the beginning of a steep decline prior to her death in 1969. The fourth in this series of rereleases of The Judy Garland Show (which died after one year of being murdered in the ratings by Bonanza), this double-sided DVD contains four hour-long shows: numbers 8, 19, 24, and 25. In the first two, Garland gamely tries to adapt her unique talent to the TV variety-show model, with weak skits and uncomfortable banter with guests. They include such bizarre sequences as Judy chatting about baseball with the late Leo Durocher (and singing a duet with him on "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"), performing with the bluegrass specialists the Dillards (who were forced to play the hayseeds, wearing suits, bowties--and bare feet), and acting in skits with comic Jack Carter. The latter two shows are for the true Garland lover: two hour-long network TV shows that essentially comprised solo concerts (with guest appearances by Vic Damone and the Robert Cole Trio), with Garland just standing there and selling the songs. The DVD also includes an audio track of the show's executive producer, film director Norman Jewison, sharing his memories of working with Garland, as well as outtakes from the shows. --Marshall Fine

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tour de force
How fortunate we are to have these surviving video masters of America's finest entertainer. This woman could do anything and her talent had no limits. I was fortunate to meet Miss Garland's third husband Sid Luft about twelve years ago in a store and he was so kind to sit down and share personal memories of Judy with me. His eyes sparkled the entire time and I could see how very much in love he still was with her. I will never forget that day.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Judy is spectacular, but I'm writing for Robert Cole
In the concert section of this DVD, there are three songs performed by the Robert Cole Trio. As far as I know, this is the only way you can hear this amazing jazz voice, no other recordings available that I am aware of. My, who is he? Amazing.

Judy? It is Judy at her best. I often listen to these performances without the video, and they are great. But if you watch her sing, you will realize that she, unlike most singers, becomes totally lost in her songs. She is THERE.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good, But Not Greatest Of All Garland Shows
I liked this DVD very much. Except for the fact I bought it used and it took two weeks to come. But besides that the DVD was what you pretty much what you would expect out of the Great Judy.

But I do have to admit Judy wasn't at the top of her game in episode #8. When she came out singing the opening number: "Alexander's Ragtime Band" she was very quiet and mumbling a lot through that song. As well through the rest of that episode she mumbled a lot especially while talking, aka: speaking ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - judy =spectacular
if u love miss judy garland you'll love her show its simply wonderful i feel in these shows u can truly witness her talent and her great personality. i love all the shows i have most of them.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Robert Cole Trio performance
Robert Cole performing with his trio on the Judy Garland Show is jazz at its best. Robert Cole's voice and phrasing, combined with his piano performance, give one of the best renditions of Cole Porter's "From this moment on" that I have ever heard! He also gives a brillant performance of "The Lady's in Love", and his "Poor Butterfly" with Judy is too fine for words. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves this finer things in life.
