Feature: Though the game is in many ways flawed, Orphen: Scion of Sorcery's interesting core game system often manages to transcend the game's poor production and haphazard design. It's not often that a console RPG attempts to challenge the established conventions of the genre. Indeed the lure of wrapping a trite narrative around a turn-based combat system and a set of "brilliant" CG movies often seems too

Product Description: Though the game is in many ways flawed, Orphen: Scion of Sorcery's interesting core game system often manages to transcend the game's poor production and haphazard design. It's not often that a console RPG attempts to challenge the established conventions of the genre. Indeed the lure of wrapping a trite narrative around a turn-based combat system and a set of "brilliant" CG movies often seems too much for most developers to resist, as the slew of me-too console RPGs makes evident. Granted, there is something to be said for a good story and well-thought-out characters, but when the genre is examined from a technical standpoint, only a few innovations have surfaced that have gained much in the way of mainstream acceptance.

There is no fun factor what-so-ever in this game. If I could give this game lower than a 1, I would.

Orphen is by far one of the worst... no, it is THE worst game that I have EVER played, or any of my friends have played, or anyone that I KNOW PERSONALLY have EVER played. Yeah, I know anime, I draw anime, and I KNOW there are bad dubs as WELL as GOOD dubs out in the world of anime, and that ain't EVEN WHOLLY why this game sucks! But dude, I like to think I know how to make a good game... or at least RECOGNIZE a good game when I see one! C'mon folks... When I go into a game store, to prove to ... Read More

Awful.... Awful awful mess. No levelling. Ratchet and clank has more character development. Beaten in your own genre by an action game....sad. Battle system is as follows : Hold x for 3 seconds. Hold [] until enemy attacks Hold x again.
graphics - 2/10 (only because of excellent anime scenes)
gameplay - 0/10
sound - 0/10
lifespan 0/10
overall 0/10
Really, there are better RPG's on ps1..... FF7 + FF8 for example AND they have better graphics.
It is so bad ... Read More

I was highly dissapointed in this game. I don't even know what to say about it. The Dubbing was just horrible, I mean I've seen some bad dubbing but damn, that was pathetic. The battle system was different, but it still sucks. i hate this game but i'm too ashamed to take it back to gamestop. don't buy it.

Well, I personally liked Orphen : Scion of Sorcery. I probably liked it because as stated, Orphen is also an anime and getting to see those few anime sequences here and there got my attention. I do have to admit that Orphen is simple in it's plot (although the ending with the whole Gaia thing was pretty interesting), and the fact that it's not the best RPG in the world with it's annoying battle system at times, it's really a good game all around. The anime sequences I think were the best and my opinion ... Read More
