I pretty enjoy this CD, and I think it is one of the best works of Michael Nesmith, who brings out as a great music compositor. He, and all of the musicians that play together with him, make this CD a true musical jewel, that you can listen, once, once again, again, and again,... without getting tired ,and enjoying of such excellent music.
Compilating these two cds was a really very good idea.

This review is coming from someone who loves the classic staples of the "country rock" genre - Gram Parsons, etc. The Nesmith disc is horrible. It sounds like a stripped-down Quicksilver Messenger Service with a steel guitar in the background. The songs aren't even catchy. Lame, lame, lame. If you like Gram, then buy Gram CDs. Nesmith doesn't belong in the same conversation.

I am a huge fan of Michael Nesmith's solo music and his music with The Monkees. If you enjoy his country-rock style then I strongly recommend that you check out the following:
1) March 16-20 by Uncle Tupelo
2) Papa Nez: A Loose Salute To The Work Of Michael Nesmith by Various Artists
3) Stranger's Almanac by Whiskeytown
4) Trace by Son Volt

Nesmith scoffed at that idea; all he wanted to do was to lay down good music, and if folks liked it, they would come to it, not the other way around. And the Hits... features Nesmith alone on guitar ... Read More
