Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: What Margot Kidder calls "the most public flip-out in human history" is fully documented through an in-depth interview with the actress, whose speech seems to show signs of a nervous breakdown. After years of manic-depression, the actress best known for playing Lois Lane in Superman had a psychotic episode. She credits L.A.'s homeless, a Buddhist acupuncturist, and her family with saving her life. This biography is packed with so many juicy tidbits it almost seems like a spoof of the genre. Frenzied writing from her journals shows how she thought she was crazy. A handful of friends and colleagues weigh in, including Superman director Richard Donner, actor John Heard (one of her brief husbands), and, oddly, Indian activist Russell Means. It's also a fun mini-history of the making of Superman, including an interview with a quotable Christopher Reeve (post-accident), who recalls the high-wire act that made the pair "fly" on-screen. Kidder's willingness to create an unvarnished Portrait makes this one soar. --Valerie J. Nelson

Truly a one-of-a-kind actress. Margot's career (and life, for that matter) is one of the most interesting ever to emerge from Hollywood. Margot, along with costars, friends and family, discusses the incredible high and low points she's endured over the past few decades with humor, honesty and warmth. When I was five years old, I remember seeing Superman: The Movie in theaters for the first time and saying, "Mommie, WHO is THAT! " At that moment, I developed a permanent crush on Lois Lane which ... Read More
