There are a lot of different releases of this movie on DVD, some of poor quality. If you can afford it, the Criterion Collection release (make sure it's the anamorphic one, not the earlier letterboxed version) is the best, in that it has a fine widescreen transfer and a commentary by the director.
But if you're a normal human, the one to get happens to be almost the cheapest one to get used (as I write this), and isn't too expensive new either. It's the version on side B of The Truth ... Read More

Charade is a superb movie but this is a lousy DVD! It's a horrible copy and it's shown in an edited pan and scan format even though they claim on the box it's in widescreen. If you have the money and can afford to buy it go for the Anamorphic widescreen DVD from Criterion or if you are like me and can't afford the expensive Criterion DVDs (The last time I checked the Criterion DVD was selling for 34 dollars) then do what I did and buy the Truth About Charlie DVD. This is one of the worst transfers of a film I have ever seen on a DVD. As stated previously, this is in full screen, not letterboxed widescreen as the package indicates. Go for the Criterion version. It's much more expensive, but worth it.

CHARADE is an excellent, classic movie and is worthy of a 5 star rating. However, this particular DVD by Front Row Features is not the best. LETTERBOXED EDITION is printed on the case, but the movie is the full screen version. The picture is of poor quality. If your looking for a good DVD of CHARADE, there are better versions around.

This is a good film, BUT this particular product by Front Row Features is not a good transfer (as stated in another review) PLUS the package clearly states that it is the "letterbox" version and it is the full screen version.
Be very careful if you are considereing buying a "Front Row" product. I've purchased two others so this is not based on a one time purchase. They are inexpensive, but not great. Remember the old saying, "you get what you pay for".
