Fer sure (and I'm not, nor never have been, a Valley Girl)this album, this Pisces, Aquarius & Jones Ltd. is the "other" Fab Four's finest, best, most MARVELOUS ONE OF ALL!!! "Daily/Nightly" ROCKS, "Words" and "Love is Only Sleeping" TRULY showed their musical maturity that "Headquarters" helped grow, helped produce. Yes, the lads, ALL of them, REALLY SHINE on this!!!!! After playing this but ONCE, it because my favorite Monkees record.

This is not only The Monkees's best album, it's also a great album completely on its own. Too often The Monkees (as others have said here) get trashed by the establishment. Here they showed that they actually had talent, and made their most consistent and greatest album. There are many great, great songs here, including Cuddly Toy, the intense Words, the country pop masterpiece What Am I Doing Hanging Around?, and the pyschedelic (and brilliant) Daily Nightly (penned by Mike Nesmith). It also ... Read More

Anyone remotely familiar with the Monkees saga knows that the members of the band grew weary over being ventriloquist dummies for Don Kirschner and the songs from his "hit factory" (yes, he wanted them to record "Sugar, Sugar," and yes, he got his revenge by recording it with a cartoon band and scoring a massive hit). This is arguably the Monkees' best album (it's either this or Headquarters). The Monkees didn't play all of the instruments on this album, but they did play a great deal of them, and they were definitely in charge of the recording sessions. There are many great songs on this album, and nothing really bad. Some of the my favorites include "The Door Into Summer", "Love is Only Sleeping", "What Am I Doing Hangin' Round", "Star Collector" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (my very favorite Monkees song). ... After the debacle of trying to record "Headquarters" by themselves, the Monkees got wise and brought back in the studio hands. The result is one of the better albums of the late 60s. There is some schmaltz here, but it's more than displaced by the excellent singing, songwriting, and musicianship displayed by all four Monkees. Michael Nesmith's lead line on "Pleasant Valley Sunday", although admittedly lifted from "Paperback Writer", is particularily well executed (never mind the fact Lennon borrowed ... Read More
