It was 1967, the technology for recording live shows wasn't very good. Most of the time they tried mixing it down right to a reel to reel, which meant you took what you got and couldn't go back to fix it later.
The only thing I could really complain about is the mix. Sometimes you can't hear dolenz's voice, sometimes the person singing background is louder than the lead, sometimes a guitar overpowers the rest.

Back in 1967, the last three shows of the Monkees summer tour were recorded for future release. And that live album did come out... 20 years later. It's not too hard to see why the album wasn't released back in 1967. It is poorly recorded, due to the technological limitations of the time period. The screaming girls in the crowd often drown out the performance. And the Monkess make several mistakes, singing the wrong lyrics, missing chords on their instruments and several other goof ups. THE MONKEES-LIVE-1967: Sure, it's ragged. It's raw. It's even a little wretched in spots. But at least it IS Mike, Mickey, Davy and Peter playing their OWN instruments (okay, Davy's only contributing maracas and tambourine), something they famously never got to do on their early LPs. I had heard Last Train to Clarksville and I'm a Believer. Before I got any best of discs I saw this CD in the $5 bin at a local CD store. I didn't listen to it for a while and it just sort of sat around. Before I had heard the Monkees, I thought of them as a rock-pop band much like the Beatles. The are in a way, but they are more like their own type of music. The songs have unique sounds and there are some funny skits during this live performance.
