Listening to this CD will take you back in time to 1967, when the Monkees were in their heyday. It's great to hear their music live, and it's also neat to hear the repartee and jokes during the performance. I never got to see them live, so this takes me to a special place where I can imagine that I was there to witness the magic for myself!

I was really looking forward to this one, especially given the plethora of four- and five-star reviews here on Amazon. But honestly, I'm stunned. Fans of this recording seem to justify its high marks with caveats like, "well, this record will surely quiet those critics who claim that the Monkees did not play their own instruments." Um...no. Apparently, the Monkees COULD play their own instruments. Unfortunately, they play quite badly. There is a lot of between-song banter that may appeal to die-hard ... Read More

Live 1967 was released in July of 1987. Live 1967 was one of four Monkees album that came out that and may explain why it did not chart. The twelve songs on this chart are from the 1967 summer tour. Side 2, track 6 is from Seattle, Side 1 tracks 1-5; Side 2 tracks 4 & 5 from Portland, and Side 1, track 6; Side 2, tracks 1-3 from Spokane. Since the songs are from a concert the clarity is not very good. The songs are from The Monkees debut album, More of The Monkees and Headquarters album. Still I am giving ... Read More

There was plenty of rumors - soon to be labeled as the truth, in the way pop culture works - on the musicianship of the foursome and whether or not the schtick from the TV series was simply created by reading scripts.
The 1967 tour should have ended a debate that continues some 40 years later. A series of concerts were recorded for an album that year, but the tapes were tossed in the proverbial vault, only to be released 20 years later.
The 16 cuts are presented as if the listener ... Read More

It was 1967, the technology for recording live shows wasn't very good. Most of the time they tried mixing it down right to a reel to reel, which meant you took what you got and couldn't go back to fix it later.
The only thing I could really complain about is the mix. Sometimes you can't hear dolenz's voice, sometimes the person singing background is louder than the lead, sometimes a guitar overpowers the rest.
But the performance is great! Classic garageband style glory!
