This is a great recording of a great entertainer at work. Amazingly--for a guy who was active for more than three decades--it's Faron Young's only live record. The label did not treat it with anything near the respect that it warranted. It got no promotion and the packaging is bare. But it's a true live recording of a performance at Gilley's in Branson, not some budget-line amalgam of performances from who knows where, with crowd noises interspersed. This is the only live album Faron Young recorded, as well as being his last album. It contains the style of singing he used in his shows, frequently a more relaxed and Dean Martin-ish performance than on his records. It also includes his off-the-cuff patter and politically incorrect jokes. This is Faron as his audiences saw him, without being filtered through media restrictions.
