Madeleine's nightmare is just beginning. Having landed in a world of almost perpetual night, where hollow-eyed zombies lumber through the sugar mill and the ghostly town is eerily bereft of living souls, she becomes the object of desire for Legendre, whose plan to possess her involves her initiation to the world of the undead. Like the other versions of United Artists' "White Zombie" (1932) I've seen on DVD, the one from A2ZCDS is yet another disappointment. Unlike the other versions (e.g., Roan, Triad), A2Z's was billed (in Amazon's "Product Details" list) as having subtitles -- which led me to hope I might finally find out what the actors are saying, despite the background hiss that seems always to accompany this film. I give the movie five stars, but the transfer one star. There has to be a better copy of this film somewhere. This looks like it was taken from a worn out VHS tape. I think it's Bela Lugosi's best performance - even better than Dracula. I'll look for a better copy...

ok i love white zombie and all however this copy from this exact company isnt good at all ,, teh sound is off and alot softer ,, the drums int eh begginign should thump really loud. Plus the black and white seems a bit bleached out

Does anyone at the Amazon.com warehouse actually pay any attention to what they're mailing? My old VHS edition of this film looks better than the one I bought from Amazon. I did NOT get what I paid for.

I'm not sure why this version of White Zombie is labelled "enhanced" -- I bought it expecting a better copy than the three versions of White Zombie that I already own, and instead got a worse copy, dark and grainy and overexposed. It's not horrible, but there are definitely better prints of this film that you can buy at the same price or cheaper.
