Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Calling this 1996 science fiction thriller "a glorified B movie," isn't a criticism. Writer-director David Twohy managed to get interesting material on the screen despite a limited budget, and the film is just believable enough to be satisfying as a tale of paranoid conspiracy. If you can ignore the hokey parts and accept Charlie Sheen as noted radio astronomer Zane Ziminski, you'll get thoroughly involved when the reception of an alien radio signal leads him to Mexico and to a huge underground power plant operated by aliens bent on the eventual takeover of Earth. Ron Silver is suitably chilling as the astronomer's boss, whose real identity is more horrifying than Ziminski ever imagined. The underground alien lair is memorably creepy, and Twohy's film is just smart enough to qualify as more than a guilty pleasure. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A great but underwhelming release.
I remember watching this years ago and enjoying it immensely, so when I picked it up on Blu-ray my expectations were fairly high. Now I'll be the first to admit that my memory was of course skewed but even though The Arrival remains a highly enjoyable film. Some of the dialogue can be extraordinarily bad but can be forgiven. The plot is interesting and believable with Sheen putting in a decent little performance. The transfer of the film really brings out the detail but for some reason looks ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A decent Sci-Fi paranoia flick...
I watched this one in the theaters and was one of the few in the seats during the first weekend. It disappeared a few weeks later. Again, I enjoyed the film and enjoyed it for what the company had to spend on to make it. Don't expect no big Wows and bangs here. It's just good cheap cinema.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Blu-Ray Review
Bought mine at [...] for $8.00 along with several other Lionsgate Blu-Rays for $8.00 each. Not a bad way to spend 8 bucks. Cheaper than a movie ticket.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Sci Fi Fun
This is one of my favorite sci-fi conspiracy movies. This is in the vein of John Carpenters "They Live". I really enjoyed seeing Charlie Sheen do something a little different as far as his character in this film. He is a scientist nerd in this film who is really curious but a little insecure in his love life. It's a little bit of a low budget Saturday Matinee type film but a lot of fun along the way. It's really cool to see this on Blu-Ray for collectors of old Sci Fi movies like myself.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - They're here! Already!
4 of 5 stars for the Charlie Sheen Sci-FI movie The Arrival. First contact with aliens? No, in this movie they are already here! I've seen this movie several times and always find it fun to watch. So, let's start with Charlie Sheen who plays a (non-comical) radio astronomer. Nice to see him playing a real character without the jokes and womanizing. He makes a discovery of a radio signal beaming from Mexico to a distant planet. "They" have been keeping an eye on him and get him fired from his job ... Read More
