Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Jay Ward's indelible mix of sight gags, groaning puns, over-the-top high and pop cultural allusions, and inspired vocal mimicry soldiers on in this vintage episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle, a touchstone for media satire that still sounds fresh and looks considerably fresher than the series' later syndicated repeats, thanks to a buff-and-polish restoration from the early '70s that cleans up its bright colors and sharp edges. The stars' serialized misadventures for this episode center on "Rue Britannia," the telltale tattoo that would confirm a fortune--and happens to reside on the sole of one Bullwinkle Moose, who has to fend off the dim-bulb sabotage of three teddibly British would-be heirs determined to nab the bounty. Mr. Peabody and Sherman set the Wayback Machine to encounter Cleopatra, Ptolemy, and Julius Caesar, with Caesar a clueless swain, Cleopatra a rather heavy-handed siren, and the outcome rooted in the show's winningly broad humor.

Even during its original network run, the show didn't cost anybody at Disney (who would subsequently snare the video rights) lost sleep over its slapdash animation. But the madcap Ward, his puckish writers, and superb vocal cast of voice-over wizards lobbed their anything-goes fusillade of then timely pop references and silly jokes with breakneck aplomb. It's a sobering testament to our post-literate age that classical literary references that worked for boomers then in grade school now might fly over the heads of their presumably better-educated offspring. Don't let that stop you: If your kids don't get the jokes, you will. --Sam Sutherland

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Bullwinkle Rules
Boris Badenov rules too, Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons are some of the absolute classic cartoons of our time. Why else would Bobby De Niro buy the Rocky and Bullwinkle name? The corny humor grows on people like a permanent fungus, I tell you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Homework help
I have theorized that watching Rocky and Bullwinkle every night before bed can indeed help one do better in school. I have watched Blue Moose in rotation with La Grande Moose, Norman Moosewell, and The Weather Lady, and went home everyday without homework! Just a coincidence? Let me continue. I have not watched any Rocky and Bullwinkle ever since coming home from Christmas Vacation, and I have had homework every day since. I know I can't inconclusively prove this, but the videos are still funny ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great!
Rocky and Bullwinkle travel to England in Vol. 4, Blue Moose:
Bullwinkle just happens to have Rue Brittania inscribed on his foot. This, strangly enough, makes him the new Earl of Crankcase, if he can stay a week in Abomitable Mannor. Mr. Peabody and Sherman rescue Cleopatra while an ugly duckling gets a make-over. Dudley Do-Right stops Snidley once more.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Eat your hart out Gainsborough
The adventures of Rocket J. Squirrel come and go on the TV. But if you have them on tape you can watch them any time. Your friends and neighbors will prefer these to watching your vacation films.

Unlike the movies Dudley Do-Right (1999) ASIN: B00004RFB2, you will find that Nell has an unnatural attraction to Dudley's horse. Or she just prefers intelligence.

An outstanding part of this series is the narrator, William Conrad who was the original Marshall Matt Dillon on the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Nothing like a blue-blooded Blue Moose
Volume 4 is just like all the others in the series - a must own!

Blue Moose has Boris & Natasha trying to stop Bullwinkle from inheriting a fortune in Rue Brittania, Mr. Peabody & Sherman rescue Cleopatra, Bullwinkle's Corner enjoys a healthy, heartfelt performance, Dudley fights Snidely's crime wave, and our favorite Fractured Fairy Tales treats us to a unique telling of the Ugly Duckling.
