This was a random pickup at Bookpeople down in Austin. The cover looked interesting, the back blurb promised zombies and sailing ships, two of my favorite things. And it had them. It was a generally good read, had me hooked fairly quick. I only wish it had had the zombies appear faster, but since I like a good sailing story I didn't mind it. If you like both zombies and Age of Sail books, you'll like it...if you only like one genre, this book may be a little too weird for you.

Zombies have been enjoying tremendous popularity in recent years in film, books, and comics as everyone wants to try their hand at giving a new twist to the undead. Death Hulk certainly does give zombies a new twist although it may have twisted a bit too hard. The book is set during the time of Napolean as England is in fear of a full-scale invasion by the French. The crew of the ship Whirlwind is becoming increasingly apprehensive and is itching to go out and fight.

This book was a real page turner - I couldn't put it down! This was like Pirates of the Caribbean II - except good. Real action. Real zombie battles. I can't wait for the next Tomes of the Dead book to come out!
