Product Description: The Doctor and Martha are about to find out if a sonic screwdriver is more powerful than a six-shooter in the latest in the bestselling series of Doctor Who novels. The peace and quiet of a remote homestead in the 1880s American West is shattered by the arrival of two shadowy outriders searching for 'the healer'. When the farmer refuses to help them, they raze the house to the ground using guns that shoot bolts of energy instead of bullets. Meanwhile, in the town of Redwater, the Doctor and Martha learn of a snake-oil salesman who's patent medicines actually cure his patient. But when the Doctor and Martha investigate they discover the truth is stranger, and far more dangerous. Caught between the law of the gun and the deadly plans of intergalactic mercenaries, the Doctor and Martha are about to discover just how wild the West can become...

This book really kept my interest the entire way through. I was very involved with the story and the cahracters kept their classic charm. I have always been a fan of Doctor Who so I couldn't wait to start reading the books. I must admit that I am not irreversibly hooked on them. I so enjoy the premise of the story. For anyone who is a die-hard fan like me of the show you should totally read these books...

You really should watch the series before reading the book (or at least some of the series) just to get the accents in your head.
The book is fairly true to the characters and the services. It is always interesting to se what different forms 'aliens' and their interactions with humanity can take. This book keeps the humor and 'wackiness' of the series.
And of course, Martha is a stone fox. I would get the book just cause her picture is on the cover!

In this adventure, the Doctor & Martha travel to the Old West. Once there, they eventually have to confront a couple of war-hungry aliens who have taken over the bodies of some unlucky humans. They meet a school teacher, Jenny, a teenage boy, Nathan, and a Pawnee, Walking Crow, among others. The final confrontation and climax of the story comes with the Doctor, Martha, and Nathan inside of an old iron mine facing off against the alien threat. It is edge-of-your-seat excitement as both Martha's and ... Read More

This one really is special, and probably one of the best of the New Series books. That's saying something, as it was one of the last that I purchased. I'm not really a huge fan of westerns to be honest, but James Swallow got me hooked on this book despite that.
The menace in this book is actually very clever and a neat Sci-Fi idea. The whole book is very well executed, other then one scene where a tense situation is sort of undermined by the need for a lot of explanations of the motivations ... Read More

I enjoy the Doctor Who novels beacause they are well written. Doctor Who: The Pirate Loop (Doctor Who)
The books always open the door to the Tardis where I can walk right in and be part of time and space. I am reading "Peacemaker" and I find it to be a good story so far.
