Editorial Review:
Product Description: OFFICIAL AND AUTHORIZED! The first book to focus solely on the life and work of the man responsible for some of the most memorable rock anthems of our generation. Tom and Paul conducted a series of in-depth discussions about Tom’s career, with special focus on his songwriting. The conversations are reprinted here with little or no editorial comment and represent a unique perspective on Tom’s entire career.

Paul Zollo captures the essence of Tom Petty in this brilliant book. Being a huge fan of Tom and his music, this book was a must read. It was very enjoyable to get inside Petty's mind and experience everything with him. This book starts in Tom's early days as an Elvis loving young boy growing up in Gainsville, Florida all the way up to the recording of Tom's most recent album, 2005's "Highway Companion" with a lot of insight along the way. I would recommend this book to Tom's biggest fans because ... Read More

I have read the secound have of this album ( ABOUT TOM's MUSIC AND SONGS's ),........"And was I ever tricked". WHY ??? Would anybody ask questions and write about almost every song TOM PETTY ,has wrote and not tell people or ask TOM himself ----"WHAT WAS HE SINGING,WRITEING, and TALKING about in each of those songs" BOY, was I dissappointed. Why go to all that trouble and not say what each of his song's where about ? VERY Up-setting. This book should GO BACK, REPRINT and ask those questions ( REFERED ... Read More

If you think you know everything from watching the Exhaustive Tom Petty Documentary "Running Down a Dream" - you'd be wrong. This book is SO MUCH MORE IN DEPTH. It's excellent. I'm a fan of reading Musician Biographies, and I'll say that this one is first rate. I like that you get to know alot more about Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and the rest of the guys - through Tom's eyes. It's more like a conversation (duh) between you and Tom Petty. Covers his entire career up through The Last DJ. The last ... Read More

I am a self-admitted fanatic when it comes to finding out anything about TP/HB I did not already know! This book provides me with even more details about them. This is one awesome read! (and easy read!) It is a one on one interview between TP and the author, who is also a musician and friend of Tom's. The first half of the book is geared toward TP's life story. A lot of the info is re-hashed later in the amazing "Running Down a Dream" Box Set. The second half dives into TP's brilliant song catalog, where ... Read More
