Containing rare, early footage of Sam preaching and performing stand-up, Why Did We Laugh? tells the story of a comedic genius who touched a deeper chord in people than most entertainers. Interviews with Jay Leno, Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, Dennis Miller and many more.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "In another time and place he would have been called prophet."
So says the tombstone of Sam Kinison who was one of the greatest comedians of our age. His talent outshined that of his peers, and his physical presence was as integral to his success as was his material. Nowadays, in a society blighted by political correctness, only comedians are allowed to speak freely which makes the likes of Sam Kinison all the more alluring. He expounded (with volume!) the foibles of human nature without a filter and we are in his debt. His life is explored here along with selected ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Story of an Unappreciated Genius
This is the story of a man who was unafraid to tell the truth. Despite the other snarky comments some have posted, this video is a great introduction to a complex, unappreciated genius who has largely been forgotten by our Britney-besotted generation.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Re-published, great Sam K content but horrible presentation now
Having rented nearly every Sam Kinison DVD published to date (Jan. '08), I think this video contains most of Sam's best routines. It includes some truly outstanding bits from his early start in Texas, including some which IMHO he never did as well in later performances.

As noted in other reviews, this video tells the story of Sam's life in pseudo documentary format -- from his early years growing up as the son of a preacher, to his start in comedy, certain key events during & after his rise ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Laugh til you hurt
I have a guilty pleasure .... the late comedian Sam Kinison .... the guy who turned from being a screaming preacher to being a screaming stand-up, and if he strikes you the right way, you can laugh til you hurt.

He was really very religious and a great communicator. He was disillusioned with people like Tammy Faye Baker and hubby and their ilk .... the so-called religious people who raised money for shopping malls etc, and so he quit the evangelical circuit to communicate in a very different ... Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Choppy
If you really want to get into Sam's routine(s),don't buy this dvd. As soon as you start enjoying his material, it stops to interview someone else that knew him.
