Editorial Review:

Product Description:
In our universe, a Cardassian sleeper agent--Iliana Ghemor--was once surgically altered to resemble and replace resistance fighter Kira Nerys, future Starfleet captain and hero of the planet Bajor's liberation. That plan never reached fruition, and the fate of the agent remained unknown...until now.

Robbed of the past sixteen years, Iliana Ghemor is back with a vengeance. Over a decade and a half of imprisonment and abuse by her former masters has brought her to the brink of madness, sustained only by the twisted belief that she is, in fact, the real Kira Nerys. She has already made one near-successful attempt on the real Kira's life, but instead of assuming the identity of the woman she was intended to replace, Ghemor has set her sights on the most unexpected target of all: Kira's other double, the malicious Intendent, Bajor's iron-fisted ruler in the alternate reality commonly known as the "Mirror Universe." But far more is unfolding in the Mirror Universe than Ghemor realizes, and the heroes of Deep Space Nine somehow must stop the false Kira without derailing the delicate flow of history that must unfold if both universes, and countless others, are to survive.

Parallel stories set in both universes reflect and build upon each other in this Two-in-One "Flip Book," the continuation of both the ongoing DS9 saga as well as the Mirror Universe line of books.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Well-written, odd format.
This continuation of the Deep Space Nine saga is as well-written as most have been, but it is in something of an experimental format which I didn't feel worked particularly well. It hearkens back to the old days of science-fiction pulps, when a book would often be composed of two shortish novellas, back-to-back so that both "front" and "back" have their own cover art, and no matter which side of the book you held, you seemed to be looking at a "front"; inside, one would read through to roughly the ...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Surprisingly Enjoyable
Olivia Woods has delivered a solid offering to the DS9 relaunch. I did indeed put this book to the side for a while due to all the negative reviews out there, but I've got to admit that I did this novel an injustice. Think back to all of those DS9 episodes that focused on minor characters and took the time to flesh out their stories, particularly that gem of an episode called "Who Mourns for Morn?". This novel is a throwback to those plot and character rich episodes.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - surprised myself and loved it!
this book was completely not what I expected. Yet, I found myself loving it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Didn't feel believable
As were the Muppets to the Muppet Babies, so is this book to the DS9 characters of Sisko and Kira. The dialogue in this book for both these characters don't reflect the complex personalities that was seen in the TV show. It's as if I was reading the teenage versions of these characters. I understand that characters change, but they don't regress to simplified versions of themselves. I guess that's why I found this book a little disappointing.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Two books in one
I was intrigued about this book, "Fearful Symmetry" when I saw that it was basically two stories in one. I recalled watching the DS9 episode, "Second Skin", that these stories are based on and was curious as to how the "sequel" to that episode would be handled. This book also ends on a cliff-hanger and I'm uncertain where to locate the next book that picks up where this one leaves off. However, it appears that Ms. Woods will be publishing a sequel sometime in 2009, (The Soul Key?) I plan to check ... Read More
