Product Description:
In this behind-the-scenes look at sports broadcasting Eli Gold tells how a kid from Brooklyn, New York, went from selling peanuts at Madison Square Garden to being one of the most recognizable voices in all of radio sports broadcasting.
From Peanuts to the Pressbox is an intimate walk down memory lane, reliving some of the greatest moments in Alabama sports (basketball and football) and NASCAR. Gold also shares stories from his early days with Yankees broadcaster Mel Allen and Red Barber and other broadcasting greats, such as Bob Costas, Tom Hammond, Verne Lundquist, Kevin Harlan, Ron Franklin, and Mike Tirico.

I had always associated Eli Gold with Nascar and had never realized how many different sports he has been involved with in his career. Football, baseball, hockey, basketball, nascar, college basketball and college football! This book describes in vivid detail the highs and the lows associated with a crazy, hectic announcers lifestyle. Many humorous anecdotes are sprinkled throughout the book. Two things I didn't like were the timeline wasn't always straight throughout and sort of jumped around ... Read More

Eli Gold's biography had the potential to reach a large audience; his down-to-earth demeanor and likeable approach are winners from square one. This is a story of a unique man with absolute passion for radio broadcasting. Tantalizing hints of his personal philosophy and background instead deteriorates into a cluttered memoir that lacks focus and clarity. Co-writer M.B. Roberts does not appear to have corralled the swath of memories and career changes into a cohesive, compelling story that would do ... Read More

From Peanuts to the Pressbox
I love sports but never have I experienced it through the eyes of a legend. The history of sports is rich, challenging and so unknown to many of us. This is a must read for anyone who thinks they like sports. This was an exciting journey through a world of unknowns in todays media.
Eli Gold was a motivated throughout his life to become a radio announcer. It began as a love affair with a radio and any type of sport that was broadcasted. Going to a ... Read More

As a Californian, the main exposure I've had to Eli Gold has been as a NASCAR announcer on MRN and what used to be TNN. There are also times when I have heard radio highlights of him and his work as the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He's always struck me as an enthusiastic and accurate sportscaster that would be hard to dislike. His new autobiography proves my hypothesis. Eli is a versatile broadcaster, a good family man and a principled person who is interested in sports and ... Read More

Eli Gold, a veteran of some 30+ years at broadcasting, has written a wonderful book on his life from literally selling peanuts at Madison Square Garden (just to get into the events free) to being the voice of the Crimson Tide and NASCAR Today. Gold describes a world of journalism that spans from the hard-wired mic days and no cell phones to the digital-remote days of today.
His book is filled with deatiled, often humourous, stories of some of the more colorful sports personalities with ... Read More
