I first got to read a copy of this book when it came out in 1987, I had borrowed a friend's and really enjoyed reading it as a teenager. Then a few short years ago, approximately 15 years later, I got bitten by the Monkeemania bug again. I purchased a copy on Ebay and reread it. Unfortunately, I have not read davy's updated autobiography (Daydream Believin') which is sold on his website, to see the differences between the two.

Excellent read for all Monkee fans.Lots of information about Davy's life and also Davy's views on Mike,Peter and Micky and the Fans. Very interesting and difficult to put down. Lots of photos not seen before too.

This is one of my all time favorite books, I have read it a millions times, and I think all monkee/Jones/music/60's fans should definately read it

I was 12 years old when I received a copy of Davy's book THEY MADE A MONKEE OUT OF ME. It has left a lasting impression with me. I have found it to be extremely informative regarding Davy's past as well as regarding the truth behind The Monkees. Davy keeps the reader interested by using humorous anecdotes and wild stories to illustrate his points. It's a must-have for any die-hard Monkees fan.

If I could, I'd give this 3.5 stars. Interesting tale of Jones' life, but I was expecting more detailed (juicy?) anecdotes. Every other rock bio I've read has great stories from the recording studio and about hi-jinks on the road. Not much of that here. I did enjoy learning of Jones' theater background, though.
As far as Monkees biographies go, I'd recommend the one written by Micky Dolenz.
