Amazon.com:
This time-capsule film from 1971 is a perfect example of having one's cake and eating it, too. Written and directed by filmmaker Tom Laughlin--and starring him in the title role--Billy Jack concerns a half-white, half-Indian karate expert who protects a free school built on principles of pacifism by kicking hell out of pesky rednecks. The story actually embraces that tension between Billy Jack's way of doing things and that of the school's founder (Delores Taylor), but their tension doesn't so much lead to an examination of principles as it leads to an excuse for Laughlin to incorporate fight scenes between hippie politics. Crude and brutal, the film is pretty exploitative of a viewer's torn sympathies, and in that way Billy Jack actually anticipates much of the simple-minded, violent fare that followed in the movies of the '70s and '80s. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Doesn't Hold Up Over Time
How can I say this? I remember this film with fondness from the 70's. "What a powerful movie" I thought when leaving the movie theater. It was back in a time when martial arts was the "new thing". Bruce Lee was hip and the civil rights movement had gone through major advances from the 60's. The 70's had films like Billy Jack that reflected those social changes. It was with high anticipation that I view this film again with my wife some 30 years later. I can't tell up how embarrassing this ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Wonderful to see it again!
Great film for it's time! Purchased this film for nostalgic puposes. It was just as good as when I saw it in the theater. What a great Classic!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Billy Jack 35th Anniversary Collection
I used to look for the Billy Jack movie to come on TV about 1x a year. Now I don't have to worry about missing it. If you enjoyed seeing it on TV you can't beat having your own copy and his other movies too.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Blu Ray Review
I loved the movie but gave the blu ray a rating of 1 because the studio was too cheap to include sub-titles. Some of us who were around when the movie was first released may not have all of our hearing intact. Is it too much to ask of a transfer-to-blu ray to have subtitles? I will not purchase it and cannot reccomend it to anyone.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Iconic
Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin)is a half-breed American/Cherokee with a slightly shady background as a Green Beret and hapkido master. Billy Jack has returned to his native reservation to protect it from the local "good ol' boys" which threaten to exploit the reservation's resources and shut down the counterculture high school which operatres on reservation territory. The movie opens with a dramatic scene of wild horses being corralled into a make-shift pen while one of the locals shoots them in a "canned ... Read More
