This book is marvelous. It is freshly written, involving and brisk - but gives you a well rounded profile of Walt Disney not only as a man, but as one of America's great indie filmmakers, who had to face a great many years of obstacles along the way to fulfilling his vision. And I mean that...he was one of the great indie filmmakers. You hear all this hype about that today - but Walt set the standard for fighting to get your films made. He faced tons of opposition and dealt with plagiarists and ... Read More

I purchased this biography to learn more about the man responsible for the world wide empire that is The Walt Disney Company. I was very impressed with the information in this book. It had everything, the biography literally described every breath of Walt Disney's life. Disney was impressive before I read this biography, and now I am even more in awe as to how he rose from humble beginnings to create a billion dollar company. I would recommend this book to anyone as it is very readable.

Bob Thomas' "Walt Disney: An American Original" is an excellent look into the life of one of America's last truly great dreamers.

Along the way the reader experiences the birth of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Walt's earliest popular creations and eventually the development of the character that put Walt ... Read More

This book was breathtaking. And when Walt died in the book, I exclaimed to my wife and almost entered a mourning state of mind. My wife did not know what I was talking about and she expressed her condolences as if he died on the day I finished the book. Walt from his WW1 experiences to constant debt-paying spree(he repaid his debts, that is Roy Disney, his brother took care of it a few months before he died) and to finally seeing the light through his spectacular life-tunnel with his theme-park adventure, ...
