Spider-Man's continuity has gotten so long and epic--and been retroactively rebooted a few times--that you can be forgiven if you don't have it all entirely straight. None of that matters with Ultimate Spider-Man, a comic book series begun in 2000 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mark Bagley. The two took Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's classic origin story and tweaked it slightly to modernize it.
The way you do this in comics is to create a parallel universe. That way, you leave ... Read More

New readers will enjoy a better read than the main Spidey titles and not be bogged down by decades of continuity(although honestly how often is that a problem) and old fans will enjoy a breath of fresh air with new takes on familiar storylines and characters from the good `ol days without crap like the clone saga stinking everything up(this title does have its own take on the clone saga but it's not horrible like the original I swear!). Bendis' long run on the series since its inception has been great.

The new series of Spiderman contains a fresh start. Quite a few things have changed in the story line, but the changes suggest a total reboot, which is what we need.

I'm not really very knowledgeable about the Spider-man mythos or comic books in general. I do, however, know what I like--and I loved this.
The medium might be two-dimensional, but the story is anything but flat. Peter Parker's metamorphosis from high school nerd into wise-cracking webslinger is an emotional as well as physical transformation, and Bendis does a find job relating for the angst and exhilaration.
The artwork is vivid, but not garish. Action sequences are full ... Read More

Ultimate Spider-Man is great because it tells about Peter when he's only fifteen and still hasn't mastered his super-powers. There are interesting twists and the book does a great job in capturing the spirit of the original comic books but still has more content in the story and a new Peter (who actualy acts more like a teenager) that makes the story of Ultimate Spider-man worth reading for the biggest of web-heads and comic book fans. The pictures are also beautiful. The drawings are well colored and the ... Read More
