I recently came across this collection and was instantly intrigued because I remembered Carlos Pacheco's excellent work from the X-Men in the 90s. I'd never read Avengers before, but seen them come and go in different X-Men stories over the years. I had no knowledge of Kang, Immortus, the Supreme Intelligence or the Kree-Skrull War. I was wary because of the other review that mentions it would be good to have a sense of Avengers' history before reading this, but that fear disappeared in a hurry. ... Read More

The product description provides the basic outline of this story and the previous review discusses the slight danger of coming to this epic without knowing much about Avengers lore. I didn't read Avengers before buying this maxi-series when it was first released in single issue form, and while some of the story was unfamiliar to me, the lack of understanding about some of the more obscure details the series referenced had the unexpected effect on me, of making me like the story even more.
