Product Description: The sinister Shadow King is desperate to escape from the mental prison he was placed in centuries ago - and he'll destroy Storm to do it! But will his freedom also unleash the horrifying swarm of the alien Brood? And, will even the X-Men be enough to battle a being who has plotted our death and destruction for ages? Then, regrouping after the devastating battle against Apocalypse, the X-Men encounter a new adversary which seems unstoppable. To fight it, the young mutants must ask themselves: How far are they willing to go and what are they willing to take to raise their game? The answer will test the bonds and shake the team to its very core. Collects Ultimate X-Men #89-97.

Love Kirkman but I must say that he made Loeb look like Stephen King after reading his work on Ultimate X-Men. They tottally disrespected the Ultimate Line and one of the greatest villans in Marvel history with this garbage of a story.
The whole drug/mutant steriod story line was brutal. I mean brutal.

I waited a long time for this book, but feel very disappointed. (beware: some spoilers in this review...if you can call them spoilers).
There are some attempts to make it interesting with the whole "drug" subplot, but it seems very repetitive, specially if comparing with the whole "kick" story arch of previous numbers was much better developed.
The rest is garbage. The X-men are again faced with another super-villain (woo-hoo) that seems to have all sorts of incredible powers. ... Read More

The ninth Ultimate X-Men hardcover collection, the shortest in the series, contains issues #89-97, the complete Apocalypse and Absolute Power story arcs. After such a memorable story by Robert Kirkman in Ultimate X-Men, Vol. 8 (v. 8), I had high hopes for this volume. Unfortunately, those hopes were not realized.
The writing in this collection is a bit too uneven. Kirkman's final Ultimate X-Men story definitely goes out with a bang, bringing Apocalypse, Sinister, Cable, Bishop and Phoenix together ... Read More

This is tha last trade for the X-men before X-men Ultimatum. And let me tell you this story arc is awesome. It's action packed and has a bunch of classic villians redone in the Ultimate way.
You will get to see the Ultimate Shadow King, the return of Mister Sinister, and Ultimate Apocalypse (feat. Fantastic Four). This trade also has a few LOST easter eggs hidden in it (for those of you who are LOST fans). And finally Ultimate Alpha Flight, featureing Ultimate Vindicator who is someone from the X-men's past, ... Read More
