Product Description: When a young woman disappears from the streets of New York City, ties of friendship and blood inevitably draw ingenious, tortured detective Charlie Parker into the search. Soon he discovers links to a church of bones in Eastern Europe, a 1944 slaughter at a French monastery, and to the myth of an object known as the Black Angel -- considered by evil men to be beyond priceless. But the Black Angel is not a legend. It is real. It lives. It dreams. And the mystery of its existence may contain the secret of Parker's own origins.

John Connolly gets 5 stars from me for "The Black Angel".A real page turner, Mr.Connolly's style of writing and his characters kept me turning the page. This was not the first Charlie Parker mystery I have read but I think it is the best so far. The character of Charlie Parker seems like the type that can attract trouble just by standing still, wouldn't want to be him but certainly enjoy reading about him.

This book was as excellently written as the rest of his work - though he is straying further and further from Charlie Parker's P.O.V. This book was also more fantastic than the other mysteries - with a society reminiscent of the one in Holt's _Wolf Moon_. Overall, this was quite good, though the ending was really sad - poor Charlie!

I have read and enjoyed all of the other titles in this series. They provide a nice contrast to all the Thriller Lite fare that you can find on bookstore shelves. The Charlie Parker stories are rough, gritty and yet literate with a touch of a 6th Sense thrown in the mix. It seems that the supernatural elements to these stories take on an ever increasing role with each new volume which I find a little disappointing. In Black Angel, you have a group of cultists that call themselves Believers who think ... Read More

This is the first Connolly book that I've read, so I don't know what his normal writing style is. I found the plot line very interesting and the story was compelling. However, I found that this book was very verbose. There were many times where the author seemed to get sidetracked with too many details behind some bit of the storyline. Eventually, I found this very distracting and in reading these sidelines, I started losing the storyline and becoming bored. Yet, I was still interested in the main ... Read More

First I should mention that this is the 5th Parker mystery written by John Connelly and I highly recommend you read the 4 previous installments before tackling this hefty page turner. You will need the back story for this novel to be truly enjoyable IMO. And all of the previous novels are all worth your time anyway.
The Parker series has dabbled in the supernatural since book one but in this novel Mr. Connolly really brings it out into the open yet still manages to hide it under the surface ... Read More
