Product Description: This is the first novel in an exciting 3-part odyssey marking Voyager's tenth anniversary, examining causality and effect, and how things aren't always as they appear. Spirits unbroken by the failed promise of the U.S.S. Dauntless, Captain Kathryn Janeway's indefatigable crew continue their odyssey of discovery through an enigmatic region of the Delta Quadrant, encountering a system inhabited by a species that, according to all known physical laws, should not exist. These unusual beings, the Monorhans, hover near the edge of extinction; technology from the Starship Voyager promises life. Janeway, compelled by the aliens' plight, dispatches Seven of Nine and Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres to the Monorhan homeworld. But an unexpected shock wave crashes the shuttle carrying Torres and Seven, catapulting Voyager into a place beyond the fabric of space-time. As B'Elanna and Seven wage an interpersonal war, Voyager struggles to prevail on an extradimensional battleground against an indefinable enemy. But fate has determined that one is inexorable linked to the other: the insurmountable chasm separating Voyager from her lost crew members must be bridged...or all will perish.

I found the opening part of this novel extremely slow, up to around page 120. Later, Seven and B'Elanna are sent on a mission together, and I really enjoyed their interactions. On the flip side, the ship-side action is tedious. A subspace field makes everyone stupid and punch-drunk leading to a great potential for humor that is never explored. Basically I enjoyed half the book and slogged through the other half. Too much emphasis and scene time were taken up by the alien Monorans that Voyager ... Read More

Jeffrey Lang has set a high standard with this outstanding first book of the "String Theory" series. The book is a compelling read from start to finish, with the Voyager characters brought to life very realistically.
The switching of scenes from the perspective of the aliens (Monorhans), with which Janeway and her crew have become entangled, to the Voyager crew themselves, effectively paints a picture of the spectrum of issues involved in the story.
The mix of tensions between the ... Read More

This book has a solid story line and is written with elegance and technique reminiscent of the best Star Trek episodes. It's one of the better Trek novels that I've read, and a lot of its strengths lie in the fact that all the characters are true to how they are on the TV series.
A great opener to an intriguing trilogy, Book 1: "Cohesion," leaves you with that satisfied feeling of finishing a great novel but also a yearning to know what happens in the next installment.

Over the weekend, I read this book and could not put it down(until sleep won that is) and in my opinion, I think this is one of the best VOYAGER novels to come out so far. Jeffrey Lang knows how to write Voyager very well. He has the characters down very well although there were some places where I felt the characters were speaking out of character especially with Neelix.
I did like the swapping of personalities between Torres and Seven. I thought that was hilarious. The scene where the ... Read More

I'm writing this after having read all three books in this series many times. I have to say that each time I read them, I love them more. Jeffrey Lang (Heather Jarman wrote ONLY the third book in the series) does a great job with the charcters, really seeming to understand them. I like the little J/C hints and the good relationships the characters have. The storyline seems a little confusing at first, but it is tied up well, and is probably the most tightly woven of the three. It also sets into motion the ... Read More
