Reading the novel helped explain what the writers in the movie really wanted to happen, but got lost by the director during the filming. It helped fill in a lot of blanks and made situations clearer on different characters, including the background of the Thin Man. The book is still on the bubble gum side, but worth a read, especially if you felt lost or disappointed by the movie. There actually was a good story at one time!
