I've read and own all of this author's work and highly recommend them. I've followed Mr. Reynold's career when she wrote and posted on her own site, Austen Interlude. To me, she brought Darcy and Elizabeth to life, much like Margaret Mitchel did Rhett and Scarlett. I love the passionate nature she gives her character...it's both sensual and intense. Abby, if you read this, know that I am hooked on your work and look forward to your next Magnum Opus, Bounds of Decorum.

I have to agree with the original poster. I just finished reading this book a few hours ago and I too thought the graphic sex scenes were TOTALLY unnecessary. In fact, I found them to be gratuitous. The BEAUTY of the orignial is that Elizabeth and Darcy love each other - for their minds and lively spirit. I never thought Darcy of wanting to jump her bones. This was the first of Abigail Reynolds books I've read. I loved P&P and all of Austen's books as well as most of the variations I've read. The story idea was good...Darcy facing competition was a great idea...the last part of the story was TERRIBLE...it was nothing but descriptions of Darcy and Elizabeth's premarital sexual encounters. I would rate this as #4 compared to the other 4 in the series. It was very good, but would rank in this order:
(1) From Lambton to Longbourn (5 stars)
(2) Impulse & Initiative (5 stars)
(3) By Force of Instinct (5 stars)
(4) Without Reserve (4 stars)
(5) The Last Man in the World (4 stars)

It almost seemed like the second half of the book was a complete separate story to the first half. I enjoyed the first half immensely because you were able to see the jealous and regret that Darcy had when he found he was too late for Elizabeth's hand. After he returned from Italy, the story went a completely different direction and after finishing the book, I was not extremely content with it.
