I had heard a lot of good things about this book, and it seemed promising. It stood out more than the others I looked at. Well, I judged wrongly. This books really isn't anything special. The plot is uninteresting, the characters are painfully 2-dimensional, and there are many unnecessary elements that I felt distracted from the flow of the story. I felt like the "urban fantasy" part quickly dissolved into a campy romance novel that reads like Buffy fan fiction.

Halfway to the Grave moves briskly and introduces a spunky female lead who makes an interesting set of choices and a quite unrealistic transition from naive helplessness to confident heroic leader through the course of the story. I found this novel recommended by many in the Paranormal Romance Forum and after reading the short synopsis i decided i had to have it. Lately i have been very much into the genre and this book definitely hit the spot. i finished it within a day and i thought about it for days afterward. this book is a must read if you're into this genre. this has to be one of my favorite reads. I found this book to be surprisingly refreshing in a very overdone genre. I'm not actually a big fan of vampires, but I read this book and One Foot in the Grave over two days and I'm still thinking about it almost 24 hours later. The characters came to life for me and now they're refusing to get out of my head!
