Editorial Review:
Product Description: At the beginning ofits fourth incredibly popular season. The X-FilesFall 1996 season premiere had the highest rating Fox Television has ever achieved for a dramatic series. The show won five 1996 Ernmy awards for special effects, outstanding writing, and best guest acbacks, and continues to garner new fans with each episode. HarperPrism is the only official publisher of The X-Files, and this season, we present three brand-new additions to satisfy the voracious appetite of the millions of fans.
The facts behind the fiction are even more disturbing than the menace and mystery depicted in The X-Files episodes. Here are the actual accounts of UFO sightings, alien encounters, government cover-ups, psychic crime solving, faith healing, spontaneous combustion, reincarnation, and hauntings from which the show's writers draw their material for sbacksy lines. This in-depth, photo-tilled guide--complete with interviews from the show's cast, crew, and writers, as well as astonishing revelations from the world's leading investigabackss, scientists and officials--tells the terrifying sbacksy behind our real life encounters with The X-Files.
Amazon.com Review: The X-Files Book of the Unexplained is the perfect synthesis of popular media, folklore, theory, and fact. Author Jane Goldman appraises the merits of episodes such as "Ghost in the Machine," in which special agents Mulder and Scully investigate a murderous computer system. However, Goldman's exploration of the inspirations for these episodes is what sets The X-Files Book of the Unexplained apart from a mere episode guide. For "Ghost in the Machine," Goldman interviews experts in the field of artificial intelligence such as MIT's Mark Torrence. She also recounts reports of Japanese workers killed by assembly-line robots that run amuck and the bizarre case of chess champion Nikolai Gudkov, who was electrocuted by the computer opponent he had just checkmated. The photographs and quotes from the television show, interspersed throughout, are a bonus for X-philes and accentuate the book's truth-is-stranger-than-fiction theme. If you enjoy this book, be sure to pick up volume two as well. --Brian Patterson

I have both volume one and now volume two- thanks to used book sellers. This book contains "explainations" for some of the best in my opinion episodes. "HUMBUG", "FIREWALKER", "3" - that was the episode that had one of david duchovny's at the time's girlfriend playing a vampire, "War of the coprophages"- heh heh Dr. Bambi, "hell money", "clyde bruckman's Final repose"- the psychic epiisode-one of my all time favorites. Msybe the book was great because it had great episodes in it... or maybe it was ... Read More

Most people think that everything in the X-files is completely fictional, this simply isn't true. There are real life roots for the stories weaved by X-files writers, and this book chronicles all kinds of useful, entertaining, and interesting examples of these facts. Are aliens manipulating our government? is mind control possible? what lies at the bottom of loch ness? Only this book will give you the facts you need to make a conclusion. I use it as a great rescource material.

A great book. You can see there's been some thorough research conducted for this book. It was an absolute pleasure reading this book. Being the avid science and X-files fan I am, it was interesting to see XF to be presented in the light of "real" science. Really a must read for any XF or science fan.

I have only read volume two, but I have to say it was one of the best books EVER! I am 13 years old and I read this book for school. When I did my presentation on it, i thought everybody would be bored, but at the end, my friends were begging me to read more. It had so much fascinating information in it. I highly reccomend that everyone on earth should read this book!
